Are you planning on quitting smoking?
Then you’re in luck, because aside from there being no time like the present, the annual Great American Smokeout is taking place once again.
The American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout event is your chance to finally kick those butts to the curb.
The American Cancer Society declares the third Thursday of every November, The Great American Smokeout.
The aim is to encourage people who still smoke to finally give up the unhealthiest of habits once and for all.
Effects of Smoking & Smokeless Tobacco on Our Dental Health
Cigarette smoking and using smokeless tobacco is not cool.
The American Dental Association’s dental health website – MouthHealthy.org, points out some of the negative oral health impacts of smoking and smokeless tobacco:
– yellow teeth and stained tongue
– dulled sense of taste and smell
– slow healing after a tooth extraction or other surgery
– difficulties in correcting cosmetic dental problems
– gum disease
– oral cancer
Do You Really Need A Reason to Quit Smoking?
According to cancer.org, about 42 million Americans still smoke cigarettes.
Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the United States.
As of 2013, there were also 12.4 million cigar smokers in the US, and over 2.3 million who smoke tobacco in pipes — other dangerous and addictive forms of tobacco.
By quitting — even for one day — you will be taking an important step toward a healthier life — one that can lead to reducing your cancer risk.
It’s a race for your health, and it starts today. The Great American Smokeout is THE DAY that quitters win.
Everyone knows quitting smoking is difficult, but with a little help from your friends and family – and the rest of America – you can increase your chances of success.
