7 Halloween Candies to Avoid If You Have Braces
Daily diligent dental health maintenance is even more important during the Halloween season when our teeth (and our children’s teeth) may receive more than their fair share of exposure to sticky candies, sugary sweets, & chewy chocolatey treats.
Things become even more difficult if we factor traditional metal braces into the picture, sticky foods and candies can cause major problems for braces wearers.
Of course, people using the Invisalign system of clear, removable aligners don’t have to deprive themselves of any delicious treats this Halloween!
Got Braces? Don’t Eat This Halloween Candy
For those of you with metal braces, try to avoid the following candy or risk seeing your orthodontist sooner than expected:
- Caramel (and whole candy apples)
- Taffy (or any chewy candies)
- Bubblegum
- Fruit roll-ups
- Gummy Bears, Gummy Fish, Gummy Worms…or anything “gummy”
- Hard candies
- Any candy containing nuts (and peanut brittle)
If you can’t manage to keep yourself away from the sugary Halloween treats, choose softer candies like peanut butter cups or other soft chocolate melt-in-your-mouth treats…but not the ones with nuts!
On Halloween it’s understood that both children and adults will be indulging in more than a fair share of candy, but that doesn’t mean we have to forget about the “Do The Daily 4” message of National Dental Hygiene Month after we’ve more than satisfied that sweet tooth.
After you’re through with all the noshing, help us in helping deliver our troops stationed overseas a little taste of home by donating your leftover Halloween candy.
Our Somerset NJ dentist, Dr. Joseph Haddad will once again be giving $2 per pound to anyone donating their leftover Halloween candy – drop yours at our office to help us out, & help out a great cause!!
REMEMBER: On November 2nd & 3rd 2015 from 3pm–6pm, Advanced Dental Arts will be hosting our Halloween Candy Buyback & charity event to support our troops overseas.
At that time, children will receive $2 per pound of excess Halloween candy that they bring in. All candy will be donated to troops serving overseas.
It’s a great way to reduce the amount of candy your kids consume while supporting a good cause!
